What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy aims to address the root causes of health issues rather than just alleviating symptoms, ultimately supporting the body’s ability to achieve optimal wellness. Naturopathy uses a structured approach known as the Therapeutic Order to guide its practice. The Therapeutic Order is a hierarchy of principles used in naturopathy to address health concerns in a effective manner.
Here’s a breakdown:
Establish the Foundation for Health: This involves addressing lifestyle factors such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, and stress management. By ensuring a strong foundation, the body’s natural healing processes are supported.
Stimulate the Vital Force: This step focuses on enhancing the body’s inherent ability to heal itself. Therapies may include herbal medicine and/or supplementation to stimulate and support the body’s vital force.
Address Structural Integrity: Here, attention is given to physical alignment and structural issues that might affect health. If required this may involve a referral for osteopathy or massage therapy.
Correct Organ Function: This step involves supporting and optimizing the function of organs and systems that may be underperforming. This might include detoxification protocols or targeted nutritional support.
Support the Body’s Natural Defenses: Strengthening the immune system and promoting overall resilience are key. This could involve strategies to boost immune function and enhance the body’s ability to defend against illness.
Address Pathology: Finally, if specific diseases or conditions are present, more targeted approaches are applied to address these issues directly. This step comes after foundational and supportive strategies have been put in place.
